First ever day for pride & protection of ‘Sindhi Topi & Ajrak’ celebrated

KARACHI: Dozens of workers from different political parties, nationalist and social events to celebrate pulled 'Sindhi Topi and Ajrak Day', plus the adoption of four resolutions here on Sunday.
The main event was jointly organized by the Commission for Culture and Heritage in which members of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM), Sindh National Party (SNP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party (STPP), Awami National Party (ANP), Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum and civil society participated to highlight the importance of culture and traditions of Sindh.
Four resolutions were adopted on the day. The first call for the holding of the Sindhi Topi and Ajrak day around the world and demanded the United Nations to include in its annual calendar.
The other resolution asked the Sindh Culture Department to take steps to promote the culture of the province and initiate projects for the welfare of the artisans who make and Ajrak Sindhi Topi. Another resolution demanded of the Sindh Education Department, including classes in the program on culture and tradition of Sindh and Sindhi Topi and make mandatory Ajrak part in school uniforms. The fourth resolution demanded of a private television station to stop "propaganda for anti-Sindh and Sindhi people an apology for criticizing their culture and traditions and take action against those who have given comments insulting to the province.
It also appealed to all channels Sindhi immediately close all programs that are against the culture and traditions of Sindh. The joint demonstration started from the Karachi Press Club and ended up outside the building of the Sindh Assembly, where leaders from different addressed the participants.
Deputy Speaker of Sindh Shehla Ramos said the people of the province are the guardians of culture and traditions of Sindh. She expressed her love for all cultures of the country. Sindh Chief Representative
