Sikh organisations protest against Ashutosh Maharaj's
The Sikh several team members took to the streets today in protest against the arrival of a controversial religious leader Ashutosh Maharaj, who has not found favor with Sikh groups for allegedly preaching against their religion.
Ashutosh Swami Maharaj, who runs an organization called the Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan (DJSS), begins his visit to the city from today, and intends to hold a religious gathering in the city.
Several Sikh men gathered outside a Sikh temple this morning, raising slogans and waving their swords in the air.
Police arrested several protesters who threw stones at them.
The radical Sikh group, Dal Khalsa, which is against the arrival of the religious leader, says it has obtained the support of state government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"We will take our peaceful procession to stop meeting here. We have nothing against the police. But the government of Punjab and the Bharatiya Janata Party is primarily responsible for organizing this meeting. Today the real face of BJP revealed before the whole country. They want to spark Hindu Sikh riots in Punjab and now the whole country knows their desire, and that was by Ashutosh and supporters have challenged the Sikh community. BJP has organized this meeting to induce error to the brotherhood of the Hindu community, "said Harnaam Singh Khalsa, a leader of Dal Khalsa.
The reports say Ashutosh Maharaj to promote Hinduism and be supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Ashutosh Swami Maharaj is not in the good books of the Sikhs since 1980, when he allegedly spoke out against the religious text of the Sikhs, Guru Granth Sahib.
Security has been strengthened following the protest, officials, even the top of the administration have inspected the site to avoid further problems.
Sikh organizations have made the idea saying that the meeting would not take place. (ANI)
