Madhuri Dixit to Play Indira Gandhi in Biopic


Asian-American director Krishna Shah is determined to make a biopic on Indira Gandhi and has roped in Bollywood Madhuri Dixit diva to play the role of first minister and only woman prime minister of India.
With the title "Mother: Indira Gandhi Story", the film was announced on 92 anniversary of late prime minister of birth Thursday. Pre-production of the film is already made. It will go on floors in mid 2010 and be shot in India, UK, USA and Russia.
Life "I've followed Indira Gandhi through media, books and critics. It is such an exciting story and dramatic. I want the next generation to know its history. A whole new generation has grown and matured since her murder and through this film I hope to connect people with their history and heritage, "Shah said in a press release.
Apart from Madhuri, Bollywood actors Dharmendra, Abhay Deol and Nana Patekar have been approached to play Motilal Nehru, Rajiv Gandhi and Jayaprakash Narayan, respectively.
Hollywood star Tom Hanks is likely to be a part of the film, as former President Lyndon Baines Johnson. Tommy Lee Jones is also reported for an important role in the film.
"Tongue: Indira Gandhi Story" will be in two parts.
While the first part will be shared history from its birth in her performance as "Maa Durga (Goddess of War) after its victory in the war against Pakistan in 1971, the second installment will include its political journey from boy's growth its Sanjay Gandhi killing her in 1984, Shah said.
Shah is doing research for the project two decades. That he has read her books, interviewed politicians, journalists, bureaucrats, writers, military men and her contemporaries to dig information.
